Cookies and Cuteness

Kids and cookies:  They go together like peanut butter and jelly, like Tom and Jerry...like broccoli and ketchup at Eddie G.'s house (!).

Seriously, though, I couldn't resist sharing this picture of my adorable nephew enthusiastically displaying the cookies I baked for him this past weekend.  Is there anything so wonderful as watching someone - especially someone so cute - enjoy food that you've made for them with love?  I think not.

My go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe has always has been the classic Toll House version.  This time, I added rainbow sprinkles for an extra, kid-friendly kick.  What's your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe?  Care to share?

OMG, Lisa...you crack me up!!

My favorite chocolate chip cookie is actually adapted from Post Punk Kitchen's Pumpkin Oatmeal Cookies, where I replace the raisins and a portion of the walnuts with chocolate chips. So good!

And BTW, I'm so back on coffee :)

My mom has a pretty good one that I have at home although I don't remember that there's anything super special about the ingredients(other than she uses butter flavored Crisco), but she bakes them in mass quantities for the KU college band and even went so far as to get a tattoo of a cookie on her arm!! The kids in the band all call her "The Cookie Lady" and her cookies were referenced once in a Lawrence, KS newspaper article and thrown out by a famous ESPN announcer on TV at a big basketball game. I've told her maybe she should start a business up there to actually sell the cookies.

Suzy, I cannot believe that your Mom has a tattoo of a cookie! That's awesome! Those must be *some* cookies...

I use the Toll House recipe myself. I like to use a mix of semi sweet and milk chocolate chips. Plus, I let the batter rest in the fridge for a few hours before baking. It keeps my cookies from baking flat.

I honestly can't wait to do this for my nephew.

New question. What can I make for my sister and Mike that will make them smile and not be a cliche (i.e lasagna and baked chicken) for a couple that has friends and family come cook them a meal cause they have too much on their hands?

Something easy cause I plan on holding a baby half the time. And something delicious and foodieprincess worthy.

Any suggestions?

Hey Aunt Jana! That's a really good question - maybe make the Thai Noodle Salad recipe from Monday's post, along with some chicken, shrimp or steak skewers (a.k.a satay)? It would be yummy, healthy and a nice change of pace from the usual casserole :)
