Planning to eat black-eyed peas on New Year's Day?  Or will you dine on a different dish to kick off 'o9 in style?

Maybe you ring in the New Year the night before with your favorite brand of bubbly?

Tell us about your traditions for the big night and the following day - we wanna hear all about 'em!

We stay in with a couple of good DVD's and Italian take out. New Year's Day is celebrated with seafood gumbo, hoppin' john, Sister Schubert rolls (the best) and Moet and Chandon Rose.

C&S, we plan on ringing in the New Year with a bottle of bubbly, specifically Piper Heidsieck, which my lovely wife bought as a present to herself when gas dropped below $2 a gallon!

On New Years Day, it is an old Southern law that one must consume black-eyed peas, at least one for every day of the New Year. That is, if you want good luck in the New Year!

I'm planning on a tapas party at my place with a Codorníu cava and an Almodóvar movie marathon :)

I would just love to - but me and the hubby have an evening "in" planned for ourselves. We're going to try our hand at Cioppino. Did I spell that right? Anyone have a good recipe for it?

Wow, I never heard the "one for every day of the year" rule regarding black eyed peas! When I was growing up, my Mom made us gag one pea down for good luck because we thought they were one of the yuckiest things you could eat. Of course, now that I'm a grown up, eating 365 is not a problem and in fact will probably eat several years worth of good luck this year. Sopped up with some cheesy mexican style cornbread while watching football!

Speaking of cheesy... I hope to spend NY'sE with my wonderful significant Other perhaps with a snack or two or three and several episodes of one of the cheesiest old TV shows around, "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." As for the snacks, I think I'll come up with something easy and tasty. But I truly believe that not just the food should be cheesy. Z'mahn simchateynu, y'all.

Hey, C&S,
Paula Deen did a rockin' cioppino on her Best Dishes show this weekend. Check it out on the FN website.

As you know, this is one of my very favorite dishes; let me know how it turns out.

I can't wait to hear about the Cioppino. I've always wanted to try it as home as well. I think I remember Giada doing a Cioppino recipe once that looked pretty good...

I will be making my usual black-eyed pea dip with tortilla chips. YUM!
