Quotable Quote

“The family meal is a social event, not a food ingestion event.”

- Dr. Cindy Post Senning, great-granddaughter of Emily Post, as quoted in a New York Times article on the subject of texting at the table.

OK, this really 'trips my trigger!'Dr. Post Senning is absolutely right - family dinners should be sacred (and not in any religious sense). How many studies have shown the benefits of family dinners? Children grow up with better self esteem, are more successful, do better in school, etc., etc., etc. This comes of spending time with family, not with cell phones, PDA's or other devices.

God help the person who texts or Twitters or whatever during Thanksgiving Dinner. No dessert for you!

Amen, Mom. I say we withhold pie privileges from anyone who dares shoot so much as a C U L8TR from the dinner table!
